Gazi Medical College Hospital (GMCH) is the first private medical college in the Khulna Division of Bangladesh. Founded in 1986, it has grown into a 500-bed hospital with eleven academic departments, located in Sonadanga near the city center and affiliated with several medical universities.

The problem

GMCH used TP-Link, Netgear, and Asus routers. This architecture was difficult to scale and no longer kept pace with the college’s connectivity needs.

Scalability: routers designed for small and medium-sized organizations lost performance when many devices were connected.

Processing capacity: the lack of enterprise-grade equipment limited advanced routing, firewall rules, and quality of service.

Features and administration: the deployment provided no advanced VLANs, comprehensive access controls, in-depth monitoring, or centralized management. Each router had to be administered separately.

Redundancy, security, and support: failover mechanisms, threat detection, intrusion prevention, content filtering, technical support, and documentation were inadequate for a large medical campus.

Performance: variable traffic, video conferencing, streaming, file sharing, and administrative tasks were hampered by insufficient throughput and stability.

For an institution of this size, GMCH needed an enterprise-grade infrastructure that was scalable, reliable, and suited to the requirements of a medical college.

Provided by Summit Communications LTD.

Summit Communications Limited is one of the leading ITC service providers in Bangladesh. The company supplies one-fifth of the sector’s bandwidth and guarantees an advertised availability of 99.99%, with low-latency domestic and international services.

The need

The college needed to replace its router architecture with an access point solution capable of providing broad coverage, supporting many users, and maintaining connectivity as students, teachers, staff, and visitors move around campus.

Coverage and capacity: access points positioned according to building density and layout eliminate dead zones and support more simultaneous devices.

Distribution and mobility: load balancing, seamless roaming, VLANs, multiple SSIDs, and QoS settings improve the experience for different user groups.

Management and reliability: multiple access points managed from a central controller simplify configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and service continuity.

Wi-Fi 6 and cost: a modern infrastructure prepares the college for new use cases while enabling more cost-effective scaling than adding numerous routers.

Why Grandstream

GMCH deployed a mix of Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 access points across the college and hospital, along with a Grandstream IP PBX and Wi-Fi phones: 30 GWN7602, 20 GWN7630, 6 GWN7664, 4 GWN7664LR, one UCM6304, 20 WP810, and 5 WP820.

Cost-effectiveness and simplicity: the access points deliver enterprise-grade performance with intuitive management and a cost suited to deployments of any size.

Centralized cloud management: GDMS Networking lets you configure, monitor, and update multiple access points from a single interface.

Wi-Fi 6 and UC integration: the GWN7664 and GWN7664LR improve capacity and performance, while the UCM6304, WP810, and WP820 provide seamless mobile IP telephony.

Models, SSIDs, and security: the range lets you choose an access point for each area, segment users by SSID, protect the network with WPA3 and MAC filtering, and provide an isolated guest network.

QoS, PoE, and captive portal: quality of service, PoE power, and a captive portal simplify deployment and visitor access.

Competitors considered: Unifi, Netgear, and TP-Link were also evaluated. GMCH chose Grandstream for its reputation, range of access points, and value for money.

The result

The administration of GAZI Medical College is satisfied with replacing traditional routers with a modern access point architecture. Students and staff experience fewer performance issues and need less support from the IT team.

GMCH uses GDMS Networking to manage the GWN7602, GWN7630, GWN7664, and GWN7664LR from a single interface, wherever the administrator is. The WP810 and WP820 phones provide continuous Wi-Fi roaming for hospital staff.

The board also plans to integrate Grandstream access points into a new building, convinced by their quality, reliability, and price suited to the Bangladeshi market.
